Community Engagement Lead

(1099 Independent Contractor)

We are seeking a Community Engagement Lead (1099 Independent Contractor) to support community engagement, communications, marketing, PR coordination, social media, and event presence for HealthInno’s statewide Innovation Pilot Network. This role is ideal for someone who can translate complex work into clear, credible updates—helping healthcare and community partners across New Mexico understand what’s happening, why it matters, and how to participate without adding operational burden.

This is a contract-based engagement, not an employment position. Contractors work independently, manage their own schedules and tools, and are compensated based on agreed-upon deliverables. Engagements with HealthInno are structured as independent contractor relationships and are governed by written agreements.

Organization: HealthInno
Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Contract Term: Up to 12 months (grant-funded engagement)
Location: Albuquerque, NM. Some in-person engagement may be required to support events, community outreach, or partner activities.

Overview

HealthInno seeks an experienced Community Engagement Lead (Independent Contractor) to support marketing, communications, social media, PR coordination, and community-facing engagement across a statewide health and advanced-computing innovation initiative.

This engagement focuses on telling the story of HealthInno’s work, strengthening community awareness, supporting events and convenings, and ensuring that program activity, pilots, and partnerships are clearly communicated to healthcare organizations, startups, collaborators, and the broader New Mexico ecosystem.

This role is offered exclusively as an independent contractor engagement. The Contractor will retain discretion over work methods, scheduling, and tools used to complete agreed-upon deliverables, while collaborating closely with HealthInno leadership and program staff to align communications with active initiatives and priorities.

HealthInno is a statewide, healthcare-led network helping New Mexico health organizations define priorities and evaluate technologies that can strengthen care delivery. We bring health systems, community partners, researchers, and builders to the same table to surface real needs, vet options, and—when it makes sense—run scoped, time-bound pilots with hands-on coordination to reduce operational lift. The goal is practical: better access, quality, and workforce capacity across New Mexico, while building local capability that supports responsible, long-term economic growth.

The right person is a strong communicator, highly organized, self-directed, and energized by community-facing work that blends storytelling, marketing, and relationship-building in a mission-driven environment.

Scope of Services

The Community Engagement Lead will provide communications, marketing, and engagement support across the following functional areas:

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Support HealthInno’s visibility and engagement across healthcare, innovation, and community ecosystems

  • Attend and support select in-person and virtual events, convenings, briefings, and meetings

  • Capture insights, highlights, and outcomes from events and partner interactions

  • Support follow-up communications to maintain momentum and partner engagement

  • Serve as a community-facing coordination point for general inquiries related to events, programs, and engagement activities

Marketing, Communications & Storytelling

  • Draft and coordinate clear, accessible content explaining HealthInno’s programs, pilots, and impact

  • Support creation of program announcements, updates, and highlights

  • Assist with newsletters, briefings, and public-facing updates (monthly or quarterly, depending on program phase)

  • Support development of messaging frameworks and talking points aligned with HealthInno priorities

  • Assist with light PR coordination, including summaries, announcements, and media-ready materials as needed

Social Media & Digital Presence

  • Support management of HealthInno’s social media presence across agreed-upon platforms

  • Draft, schedule, and coordinate engaging social media content aligned with pre-approved messaging guidelines (typically ~2–4 posts/week; higher volume around events as needed)

  • Monitor engagement and flag opportunities to amplify partner work, milestones, and ecosystem activity

  • Maintain organized content calendars and post trackers

Visual Content & Creative Support

  • Design compelling, on-brand visual assets (e.g., social graphics, flyers, event slides, basic templates) using Canva or similar tools, following brand guidance

  • Coordinate visual assets for events, announcements, and digital content

  • Support light photo and short video capture at events, with prior approval, for use in communications and reporting

Events & Convenings Support

  • Support promotion, registration coordination, and communications for HealthInno-hosted events and convenings

  • Provide onsite or virtual support during select events

  • Draft post-event summaries, highlights, and recap content

  • Coordinate calendars, reminders, and follow-up communications tied to events

Coordination & Operational Support

  • Coordinate closely with HealthInno leadership and program staff to align communications with program timelines

  • Maintain organized documentation related to communications, engagement activities, and content

  • Assist with website updates, public calendars, and event listings

  • Participate in agreed-upon coordination check-ins to review priorities, progress, and upcoming needs

Deliverables & Accountability

  • Consistent, high-quality communications and engagement outputs aligned with HealthInno’s brand voice

  • Regular social media content and engagement support

  • Event-related communications and post-event summaries

  • Organized content calendars, drafts, and visual assets

  • Timely updates on engagement activity and deliverables

  • Professional, responsive communication with partners, vendors, and stakeholders

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to translate complex initiatives into clear, compelling messaging

  • Experience supporting social media, digital content, and basic visual design

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet deadlines

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, AI tools, and basic digital design platforms (e.g., Canva)

  • Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgment, and handle sensitive information appropriately

  • Reliable transportation for occasional local travel

Preferred

  • Experience supporting innovation, healthcare, nonprofit, or public-sector initiatives

  • Familiarity with ecosystem-building, community engagement, or multi-partner programs

  • Experience supporting events, convenings, or public-facing initiatives

  • Termination: Either party may terminate the engagement with written notice as specified in the Independent Contractor Agreement (typically 7–14 days)

Engagement Structure & Compensation

This role is structured as a phased, contract-based engagement aligned to HealthInno’s 2026 program initiatives, pilot activity, and community engagement calendar.

The initial engagement is expected to begin at a partial scope (approximately 20–25 hours per week equivalent), with the potential to expand as program activity, events, and communications needs increase over the 12-month cycle.

Compensation will be structured as a monthly retainer tied to defined deliverables, set based on experience and scope within project budget.

As activities scale, there may be an opportunity to expand scope and retainer, subject to mutual agreement and project needs.
